Iowa

I've survived the car ride to Iowa (Cedar Falls). Although previously Jean and I had not talked much, we chatted during the entire two-day drive. Ever four hours or so, we would stop for a meal. For the most part fast food here is similar to that in the states, but there is a larger menu here.

Iowa has a similar geography to Guelph. Not very hilly (like in Fredericton), but there are some 'bumps'. The weather is great, warm but not humid with a steady breeze. Cedar Falls is a small city. The downtown, is smaller than the one in Sydney. I am only a block away from the main road, but there is very little traffic. It's hard to believe that there are still places in North America where people do not lock their cars or doors!

Tomorrow we are heading the the University of Northern Iowa. I can see the football dome from here. The football stadium is the most prominant building around! Tomorrow will we plan our plant material collecting trip to Missouri, Arkansas, and possibly Texas and Louisianna. I'm so lucky to be able to do so much travelling with my degree. I'll be in this central part of the US until June 5 and I will be leaving for a three week course in Miami on June 12. I wish I could have more time at home with Jason between trips. I doubt Artemis (the cat) will remember me by the time I return. (I'll buy her love with treats when I am home :)
